PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exercise assisting device by which a user can perform effective training even without assistance of an assistant, and a method for controlling an exercise assisting device.;SOLUTION: An exercise assisting device includes: a tightening mechanism 110 for tightening an object to be examined with variable tightening force; a blood flow information measurement device 130 for performing measurement processing for blood flow information of the object to be examined; and a processing part 210 for performing count processing for repetition frequency information of repetitive exercise by the object to be examined based on the measured blood flow information.
