Embodiments of the present invention generally relate to optical mode conversion using inter-mode Cherenkov radiation. More particularly, embodiments of the present invention utilize inter-mode four-wave mixing to convert light between modes for composite applications, whereby one of the four waves is generated by Cherenkov radiation. It relates to the generated optical mode conversion. According to one embodiment of the present invention, the fiber outputs an input end for receiving light in a first mode at a first wavelength and a desired second mode at a desired second wavelength. And the desired second mode is controlled by deformation of the fiber, such as by bending, during the inter-mode Cherenkov radiation process.
