PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing an alginic acid polymer including low-concentration silver crystals, having a high antimicrobial activity, and capable of stably releasing silver crystals and/or silver ions.;SOLUTION: The provided metal crystal-containing alginic acid monomer includes a first alginic acid monomer and at least one first metal crystal. The first alginic acid monomer is constituted by bonding a first uronic acid molecule and a second uronic acid molecule, whereas a first carbonyl group is formed on the second carbon (C2) of the carbon chain of the first uronic acid molecule, whereas the first carbon (C1) of the carbon chain of the first uronic acid molecule and the fourth carbon (C4) of the carbon chain of the second uronic acid molecule form a first inter-monomer glycosidic linkage.
