PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately perform automatic video recording for plural users of a video display device without missing recording and without recording an unnecessary program, in consideration of the past viewing situation and present viewing situation of each user.SOLUTION: A video display device 100 having a function of recording a video is provided with: a camera 600 for taking a user's image; a viewing state recognition part 620 which analyzes the user's image and recognizes a viewing state of the user with respect to the video display device; a viewing history recording part which acquires program information inputted to the video display device and records the viewing state of the user and the program information in association; a video recording program extraction part which extracts an automatic video recording candidate program in accordance with the past viewing state of the user recorded in the viewing history recording part; and a video recording determination part 640 which determines whether to record the automatic video recording candidate program from the extracted automatic video recording candidate program and the present viewing state of the user obtained from the viewing state recognition part.
