Device and method for lateral fixation of the cervical spine

These devices and methods make it possible to deliver treatment from a lateral or posterior lateral position of the subject proximate to the cervical neck. One exemplary embodiment of a spinal implant includes an elongated cage member and a plate member attached to the proximal end of the cage member. The plate member may be oriented so as to be asymmetric with respect to the long axis of the cage member. In another exemplary embodiment, the implant includes a cage member having a distal end having an asymmetric bullet shape such that its distal end is biased upward or toward the head. In a third exemplary embodiment, the implant includes a spinal fixation element and at least two attachment eyelets formed therein. Exemplary methods for implanting spinal implants from lateral or posterior lateral locations are also provided.
