Distance estimation method based on RSS measurements using a receiver with limited sensitivity

The present invention relates to a method for estimating a distance between a radio signal transmitter and a receiver. The first distance estimate is obtained from the signal strength (RSS) of the received signal and the path loss model has a predetermined path loss parameter. This distance estimate is further modified using a systematic bias depending on the actual finite sensitivity of the receiver. If necessary, a modified variance of the distance estimate can also be calculated.
