PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a film that protects a recorded matter, preferably a historical old recorded matter (old documents or the like) and a recorded matter preservation method, wherein: the purpose is that the deterioration due to ultraviolet or moisture, and the destruction due to organisms such as a small animal, an insect, and a bacterium are prevented; the film is light and a small volume; and further a recorded matter can be visually observed by an infrared absorption analysis or an optics microscope while being held on the protective film.;SOLUTION: The film for recorded matter preservation comprises a polyester film (A) that has at least 10/cm2 and less than 100/cm2 of a through hole having a diameter of at most 100 μm, and has at most one/cm2 of a through hole having a diameter exceeding 100 μm, and that has at least 10 μm and at most 100 μm of a thickness.
