PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance adhesive properties of a DLC film provided on the surface of titanium or titanium alloy sliding component, and to materialize excellent shock resistance.;SOLUTION: This sliding component for an internal combustion engine includes: a component body 1a formed of titanium or a titanium alloy; a surface hardened layer 1b formed on the surface of the component body 1a; a diamond-like carbon film 3 provided on the surface hardened layer 1b; and a titanium layer 2 provided between the surface hardened layer 1b and the diamond-like carbon film 3.
