The present invention relates to a combination of a combination of a fluorescent substrate and a pH sensitive fluorophore, particularly a combination of 4-methylunberepherone and fluorescein derivatives. This multiplication medium is used to detect microbes by fluorescence by combining fluorescence measurements with respect to pH sensitive fluorophore and fluorescence measurements on the activation of (more than one) fluorescent substrates by microorganisms.
