PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To identify a residual velocity of a projectile with a simple and inexpensive structure even if fragments and dust of a specimen are scattered when the projectile penetrates. PSOLUTION: A system 100 for detecting the projectile velocity includes: a sliding device 130, the mass of which is greater than the projectile, having a housing 134 for supporting shock-absorbing material 132 whose surface is exposed to oppose a flying direction of the projectile and a sliding mechanism 136 for sliding the housing movable in the flying direction of the projectile; a speed measuring device 140 for measuring a moving velocity of the sliding device after the projectile has reached the shock-absorbing material; and a speed identifying device 150 for identifying the residual velocity of the projectile by using the law of conservation of momentum based on the moving velocity of the sliding device and mass ratio between the sliding device and the projectile.
