PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To protect a surface of an intermetallic alloy substrate containing titanium aluminide as a major component against corrosion.;SOLUTION: The method includes the steps of: (a) preparing the substrate formed from an intermetallic alloy; (b) depositing gold on the surface of the substrate to be protected; and (c) annealing the substrate having the gold coating under a controlled condition so as to induce limited diffusion of gold at the surface to be protected.
