The use of OsPP18 gene in the genetic improvement of drought resistance of a plant is provided. A plant or plant cell comprising a recombinant DNA molecule comprising a polynucleotide encoding OsPP18, a method for producing the plant, a DNA construct comprising a polynucleotide encoding OsPP18 are also provided.
