The invention provides a method for the treatment of prostate cancer in a subject with local occurrence of prostate cancer, comprising administering degarelix to said subject at an initial dose of 160 to 320 mg and at a maintenance dose of 60 to 160 mg, once every 20 to 36 days thereafter, where the treatment has a reduced incidence and/or likelihood of one or more of a musculoskeletal disorder and/or a connective tissue disorder in the treated subject.
