Described is a method for seismic surveys for hydrocarbons using average velocity of wave velocity field for constructing of which a well-constrained transverse variable velocity-depth curve, i.e. H-V curve (H is depth, V is velocity) is used, wherein the seismic interval velocity linearly increasing with depth is represented by formula v=ah+b, where v is a seismic interval velocity, h is the strata burial depth, a, b are characteristic parameters of the velocity-depth curve (i.e. H-V curve). The presence of hydrocarbons in the explored zone is judged from abnormal deviations in values of obtained average velocity of seismic wave field compared to values of the field in locations knowingly not having hydrocarbon deposits. The proposed method provides to increase percentage of successful attempts of exploratory drilling and to reduce costs of oil/gas geophysical exploration seismology and to raise the accuracy of a seismotectonic map.
