The present invention provides compositions and methods for treating cancer in humans. The present invention includes the introduction of genetically modified T cells expressing CAR, which contains an antigen-binding domain, a transmembrane domain, a CD2 signal-transmitting domain, and a CD3-zeta signal-transmitting domain. The present invention also includes the inclusion of CD2 in CAR for altering, both increasing and decreasing, cytokine production of CAR-T cells.
