Treatment of the brain and spinal cord edema of ischemic, traumatic, toxic and infectious origin with lithium salts hypertonic solution. The invention relates to medicine, in particular to neurology and pharmacology and can be used for treating patients having ischemic, traumatic, toxic and infectious disorders of cerebral brain and spinal cord accompanied by tissue edema. The method provides to eliminate side effects, to shorten the period of treating cerebral edema and spinal cord diseases, to reduce mortality in post-traumatic or post-stroke, to accelerate rehabilitation of neurological functions. The treatment of edemas of cerebral brain and spinal cord is performed by administering hypertonic solution of definite organic and inorganic lithium salts of 2-15% concentration based on 50-100 mg of salt per 1 kg of weight (1-4 ml per 1 kg of weight).
