A set of beads for detecting a strain of HPV and / or differentiating between two or more strains of HPV, wherein the set of beads comprises a plurality of subsets of specific beads from a strain of HPV in which: (a) beads of each subset are homogeneous with respect to size; (B) the beads within each specific subset of HPV strain is chemically linked to a capture probe nucleic acid is capable of binding to a specific region of an HPV strain of HPV genome; (C) each subset of beads is distinguishable by virtue of measurable differences in bead size, the presence or absence of an optically detectable label, and the intensity of optically detectable label, wherein the optically detectable mark is provided on the capture probe on each bead; and (d) are mixed together at least two subsets of beads, with a capture probe nucleic acid selected from the list consisting of SEQ ID NOs: 5 to 20, to produce a set of beads, wherein the identity subset and therefore the strain of HPV is identifiable by flow cytometry based on size, intensity and discrimination mark sequence.
