An apparatus for orienting a prosthetic femoral head relative to an acetabulum, comprising: a. a femoral stem (10, 100) configured to be received within the intramedullary canal of a femur; and b. a member of femoral head (20, 200) configured to engage a femoral stem and which is further configured to be received in the acetabulum further member femoral head comprising an indicator, wherein the indicator is configured to guide a position on the prosthetic femoral head relative to the acetabulum so that the indicator indicates proper relative position of the prosthetic femoral head in the acetabulum.
