A method for assessing renal toxicity in an individual after administration of compounds suspected to produce renal toxicity, wherein renal toxicity is identified by measuring a set of biomarkers in a urine sample of the individual and comparing the amount of biomarker measured with the corresponding amount in a healthy individual, where the biomarkers are selected from the group consisting of the biomarkers listed in Table 1 and include the cystatin C protein and where the renal toxicity are glomerular alterations / damage.
