A method of coating a sheet of paper or cardboard, comprising: (a) coating at least one side of the sheet of paper or cardboard with a dispersion having a cationic zeta potential comprising (1) a mixture containing one or more more anionic pigments selected from the group consisting of talc, kaolin clay, bentonite clay and laponite, in an amount of at least about 20% of the dry weight of the mixture and (2) one or more cationic resins of moisture resistance of polyamineepihalohydrin, in a coating weight of about 0.1 g / m2 to about 20 g / m2, and (b) drying the coated paper or cardboard sheet, where the weight ratio of cationic resin to moisture resistance of polyamine-epihalohydrin: anionic pigment is from about 0.01: 1 to about 2: 1, and where epihalohydrin is epichlorohydrin.
