An infectious recombinant classical swine fever virus (VFPC) in which the parental genome is the genome of a C (Chinese) strain comprising a deletion of at least two amino acids in a "TAVSPTTLR" domain of the E2 protein, corresponding to positions 829 to 837 of a parental VFPC polyprotein, wherein said deletion comprises a proline and threonine deletion at positions 833 and 834 in said "TAVSPTTLR" domain not followed by an amino acid insertion into the same positions, and the virus comprises at least one additional alteration in the parenteral genome to make the virus suitable for use as a DIVA vaccine.
