A scene graph (40) is provided which represents data and a set of processesthus providing an enhanced approach to the previously known scene graphconcept. With this approach the scene graph (40) becomes a renderingdescription of the data rather than a world description. Previously knownscene graphs represent a structure of object and their attributes. The scenegraph (40) has a notation of the traversing order, which together with thetypes of nodes, the nodes position, node functionality and node statedetermine the rendering order. Thus, any effects supported by the underlyingrendering pipeline (1) can be expressed directly in the scene graph (40) bythe user. An API is provided for the scene graph (40), controlling the actualrendering order and optimization to the user. The scene graph (40) isextensible allowing the user to experiment and express new renderingalgorithms in the scene graph semantic.
