The composition of the invention comprises a supported oxide, based on a cerium oxide, on a support based on silica, alumina, titanium oxide or zirconia. It is characterized in that it comprises particles of said supported oxide, deposited on said support, individualized or in the form of aggregates, having a size of at most 500 nm and in that it has, after calcination of 6 hours at a temperature of at least 800 ° C, a reducibility measured between 30 ° C and 900 ° C of at least 80%. It can be prepared by a process in which a colloidal dispersion of the supported oxide is brought into contact with a suspension of the support; the mixture thus formed is spray-dried and the dried product thus obtained is calcined. The composition can be used as catalyst or catalyst support.
