The present invention provides methods for reducing A.beta. deposition,A.beta. neurotoxicity and microgliosis in an animalor human afflicted with a cerebral amyloidogenic disease, such as Alzheimer'sdisease (AD), by administering therapeuticallyeffective amounts of the (R)-enantiomer of the dihydropyridine compoundnilvadipine, also known as (-)-nilvadipine, to the animalor human.
