CONTROLLING PRODUCTION OF TRANSPORTATION FUELS FROM RENEWABLE FEEDSTOCKS

A process for controlling the concurrent production of both diesel rangehydrocarbons and aviation range hydrocarbonsfrom renewable feedstocks such as plant oils and animal oils. The processinvolves determining the required specificationof the desired products and the desired relative yields of the product thatstill meet the required specifications. The necessaryiso-merization and selective hydrocracking zone conditions are determined inorder to create a mixture of paraffins which meet therequired product specifications and yields. The necessary fractionation zoneconditions are determined to separate the desiredproducts. A renewable feedstock (2) is treated by hydrogenating anddeoxygenating (4) to provide an effluent (6) comprising paraffins,isomerizing and selectively hydrogenating (22) at least a portion of theparaffins at the predetermined conditions, and separatingby fractionation (42) at the predetermined fractionation conditions togenerate a diesel range hydrocarbon product (46) and anaviation range hydrocarbon product (45).
