The invention relates to a scaffolding component (45) with at least one connection head (61) for forming a releaseable connection with a vertical scaffolding element (41) extending in the direction of a longitudinal axis (47). On this scaffolding element is fastened a projection (44) which extends transversely to the longitudinal axis (47) thereof and which has an aperture (55) for plugging through a wedge (62). The connection head has an upper head part (74) with an upper wedge opening (80) and a lower head part (75) with a lower wedge opening (81), for the wedge (62) which can be plugged through the wedge openings (80, 81). Between the upper head part (74) and the lower head part (75) is arranged a slot (67) which is open towards the front and which is intended for plugging the connection head (61) onto the projection (44). The slot is bounded upwardly and downwardly by slot surfaces which extend on both sides of a horizontal centre plane. The connection head (61) has a wedge support body (85) with wedge support surfaces which is arranged above the slot (67) so as to engage over the slot (67) towards the front, for vertically supporting the wedge (62) in the region of its lower wedge end against an unintended movement of the wedge (62) vertically downwardly into a blocking position in which the connection head (61) would be blocked from being plugged onto the projection (44) by way of its slot (67) in a substantially horizontal plugging-on direction (105). The wedge, when it is supported on the wedge support surfaces of the wedge support body (85) and protrudes upwardly with a wedge part (190) from the upper head part (74), can be pivoted relative to the connection head (61) into a pivoting stop position in a vertical plane extending perpendicularly to the horizontal centre plane of the slot (67), in which position the wedge (62) projects forwardly in front of the upper head part (74) of the connection head (61). The connection head (61) has, above the wedge support surfaces of the wedge support body (85), a wedge pivoting abutment (86) against which the wedge (62), when it is supported on the wedge support surfaces of the wedge support body (85), can be made to bear or bears in the region of its lower wedge end and about which the wedge (67), when it bears against the wedge pivoting abutment (86), can be pivoted rearwardly by its wedge part (190) and at the same time forwardly by its lower wedge end in order to release the wedge (62), with the result that the wedge (62) can pass, under the force of gravity and/or with spring force assistance, automatically vertically downward while crossing the slot (67) into or through the lower wedge opening (81). The invention also relates to a method for fastening such a scaffolding component (45) to a vertical scaffolding element (41).
