The invention concerns a method for selecting a cell in a heterogeneous wireless network, in which a management centre is responsible for managing a set of server stations comprising at least one mainframe server station and at least one small server station, said method comprising the following steps: transmission, by a terminal, of a query containing a request to be able to communicate at a certain data rate; transmission of said query to said management centre; and determination, by the management centre, of the server station of said group to which said terminal should be attached, at least on the basis of the respective loads of the server stations of the set and the resources required to satisfy the data rate requested by the terminal. According to this method, if there is a non-empty subset of server stations in the set such that allocating the resources required to satisfy the requested data rate would not increase the load of same by more than a certain quantity, the server station determined by the management centre is the server station of said subset that is capable of keeping the highest number of resources available after allocating, to said terminal, the resources required in order to satisfy the requested data rate.
