This invention implements appropriate load balancing in an event-processing system. This load balancer is used in a system that contains the following: a plurality of event sources, each of which generates events and transmits said events to a specified sorting device; and a plurality of sorting devices, each of which receives events from one or more event sources and transmits the received events to a processing device. This load balancer is provided with the following: an acquiring means for acquiring a reception status or transmission status, said reception status or transmission status being information that represents the number or information size of events received by the sorting devices, from a specific event source, within a prescribed period; and an updating means for updating the sorting device specified for the aforementioned specific event source to another sorting device on the basis of the aforementioned reception status or transmission status.
