Disclosed is a light source assembly (20) used for installing in a box body (10) of a side-entry-type light box and converging emergent light towards an emergent light top face (12) of the box body (10). The light source assembly (20) comprises an outer housing (24), a circuit board (22) installed in the outer housing (24), a light source (21) provided on the circuit board (22), and a lens (23) covering the light source (21). A through hole (243) is provided on the outer housing (24) for installing the lens (23) and for the emergence of light, the lens (23) converges light emitted by the light source (21) in the direction of the emergent light top face (12) as emergent light. Further disclosed is a side-entry-type light box using the light source assembly (10) and comprising the box body (10) and the light source assembly (20). The box body (10) comprises a frame (11), with an emergent light top face (12) and an installation side face (13) adjacent to the emergent light top face (12) provided on the frame (11), and the light source assembly (20) installed on the installation side face (13). By providing the light source assembly on the installation side face of the box body, drawbacks brought about by providing same directly opposite the emergent light top face of the box body are avoided, and using a lens to converge the emergent light direction of the light source onto the emergent light top face provides an emergent light rate for the emergent light top face, thus optimising the illumination effects of the light box.
