In order to reduce the characteristic impedance in a projectile having a projectile nose (1a) and a projectile tail (1b), during the firing operation a spike (2) is extended out of the projectile nose (1a) of the projectile such that the spike (2) acts as an aerodynamic forebody and the flow contour is changed thereby. The extension can take place by means of a piston (3) which is movable in an axial bore (1c) and is moved by the pressure development during the firing operation.
