The woodworking machine (1) has a machine table (2) along with table opening (3), a tool receiver (6) along with a tool (10), a tool drive (33) arranged under the machine table, one or multiple adjustable axes (12,13,14,15) and a controller. The woodworking machine has a safety unit (17) for collision detection. The safety unit has a safety area (19) at a collision relevant part, particularly at the table opening or at a bedstop. An independent claim is also included for a method for avoiding collisions between machine- and tool parts in a woodworking machine.
