The present invention is directed to a method an a pallet in a Surface Mount Technology (SMT) system for scanning an identity tag of a pallet comprised in a bin, where the system is configured to perform the steps of optically scanning an individual identity tag attached to a pallet comprised in said bin to obtain a pallet ID, wherein said pallet is comprised in and vertically oriented in said bin, and wherein said pallet has an pallet identity tag attached to the pallet's upwards facing surface.
