A laser processing optical unit (15), in particular a laser welding optical unit, is provided with a pivoting deflecting mirror (19). A change in the pivoting position of the deflecting mirror (15) allows varying the position of a laser beam focus (23) along a positioning axis (24) relative to a workpiece (2). A rotary drive motor (27) generates a pivoting motion of the deflecting mirror (19), the rotary drive motor (27) being connected to the deflecting mirror (19) by a transmission (28), by means of which a unidirectional rotary driving motion of the rotary drive motor (27) can be converted into a periodical, bidirectional pivoting motion of the deflecting mirror (19).
