The invention relates to a method and to a device for measuring the hemolysis or for determining a correction factor that corrects the influence of the hemolysis on a measurement of the hematocrit. The invention is based on the performance of two different optical measurement methods for determining the hematocrit, wherein the hemolysis or the correction factor is determined on the basis of the value for the hematocrit determined in the two measurement methods. It has been found that the hematocrit values determined by means of the different measurement methods are influenced to different degrees by the rising concentration of the free hemoglobin in the plasma as a result of a hemolysis. In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the first measurement method is a reflection measurement and the second measurement method is a transmission measurement. The measurement of the hemolysis or the determination of the correction factor is then performed on the basis of a calculation of the difference between the hematocrit values in the reflection measurement and in the transmission measurement.
