The invention relates to a method for the treatment of a reinforcing element, a reinforcing element and a tyre comprising a reinforcing element. The reinforcing element has a generally flattened cross-section, extends in a main direction and comprises at least one side edge made from a polymer composition comprising a thermoplastic polymer, said side edge extending in a general direction substantially parallel to the main direction. The method comprises a step of heating at least part of the side edge, during which at least part of the side edge is subjected to a plasma flux such as to increase the temperature of the part of the side edge above the melting temperature of the thermoplastic polymer.
