A lance (1) for a portable backpack sprayer comprising an inlet side connection (3a) for connecting the lance (1) to the reservoir associated with the backpack sprayer and an outlet side connection (3b), wherein in the region of the outlet side connection (3b) of the lance (1), one or more flat spray nozzles (5a, 5b) are arranged each with a spray angle in the range from 15º to 50º. A lance set, nozzle set, and adapter set for connecting the lance (1) to portable backpack sprayers of various manufacturers. Use of the flat spray nozzle and the lance equipped therewith for wide manual application of pesticides, in particular in an irrigated rice field.
