The invention provides means and methods for selectively decontaminating a room for a specific bacterium. The invention in particular provides means and methods for providing a room with a decontaminant comprising determining a bacterial species for which the room is to be decontaminated; preparing a decontaminant that comprises at least one bacteriophage (phage) that is known to propagate in bacteria of the bacterial species; releasing the decontaminant as an aerosol with droplets of an average diameter of 0.2 – 40 micrometer into the room; and incubating the room with the aerosol for a period of at least 1 minute. The invention further provides means and methods for selectively decontaminating an individual with an aerosol.
