The invention relates to a firefighter training method and a device (1) for simulating a flashover in a burning room, said method including the introduction of a first quantity of a first combustible in a gaseous phase into the burning room and subsequently igniting and combusting the first combustible in the gaseous phase in a first step (i). The aim of the invention is to provide an improved firefighter training method and a device (1) for simulating a realistic flashover which meets high safety requirements at the same time. This is achieved in that immediately following or overlapping with step (i) , a quantity of a second combustible which is introduced into the burning room (2) in a fluid aggregate state is ignited in the burning room (2) in a second step (ii) in order to form an ignition cascade of a first combustible introduced in the gaseous aggregate state and a second combustible introduced in the fluidic aggregate state.
