The invention relates to a pilot control with real-time capability for an injection profile that is to be used at least in a transient operating range of an internal combustion engine, the pilot control determining the injection profile iteratively by means of a model-based combustion process model. Also disclosed is a control device in which a corresponding method is implemented.
