The purpose of this invention is to provide an error estimation method and the like whereby, with a reduced processing load, signals from positioning satellites can be used to estimate, with high precision, the error in an index representing the state of a moving body. Said error estimation method includes the following: computing, with prescribed timing relative to the period of motion accompanying movement of a moving body, a coordinate-transformation matrix between a first coordinate system based on a first sensor attached to the moving body and a second coordinate system based on the moving body; using said coordinate-transformation matrix, if a detection result is obtained from a second sensor that receives signals from positioning satellites, to convert an azimuth angle for the moving body based on a detection result from the first sensor or an azimuth angle for the moving body based on the detection result from the second sensor; and using the difference between the converted azimuth angle and the other azimuth angle, with prescribed timing subsequent to the timing with which the detection result was obtained from the second sensor, to estimate the error in an index representing the state of the moving body.
