[Problem] To provide a wireless transmission device that makes it possible, regardless of the configurations and statuses of an active device and a backup device used in a redundant configuration, to switch between said devices. [Solution] This communication device, which is the active device in a communication system comprising an active device and a backup device that are connected to each other, is provided with the following: an addition unit that adds, to data to be sent to an opposing communication system, identifier information indicating the active device in the communication system that this communication device is part of and identifier information that was included in data received from the opposing communication system and indicates the active device in said opposing communication system; an extraction unit that extracts, from information that the opposing communication system sent to the communication system that this communication device is part of, the aforementioned added identifier information for the active device in the communication system that this communication device is part of; and a switching determination unit that, on the basis of the extracted identifier information for the active device in the communication system that this communication device is part of, determines whether to switch between the active device and the backup device in said communication system.
