The invention relates to a device for switching a semiconductor-based switch, comprising a connection which is designed to be connected to a control connection of the semiconductor-based switch. A controllable activation voltage source is designed to provide a time-variant activation voltage potential. A controllable resistive circuit has at least two ohmic resistors which are connected in parallel and which can be controlled in at least three resistance values of the parallel circuit. A controller is designed to control the controllable activation voltage source and the controllable resistive circuit independently of each other. The controllable activation voltage source and the controllable resistive circuit are connected into a series circuit which is connected to the connection. The controller is designed to control the controllable activation voltage source and the controllable resistive circuit in a time-variant manner in order to obtain time-variant resistance values of the controllable resistive circuit and the time-variant activation voltage potential of the controllable activation voltage source so that a time-variant voltage potential can be applied to the control connection on the basis of the time-variant resistance values and the time-variant activation voltage potential.
