The invention relates to a method for determining the concentration of myostatin in serum by contacting serum to an immobilized antibody specific for the myostatin prodomain, followed by removal of unbound components and contacting a second antibody specific for the myostatin prodomain with the first antibody, followed by detection of the second antibody.
