The inventive method for detecting properties of a fluid medium (3), wherein for performing the detection at least two sensor elements (10, 20) each having at least two electrodes (11, 12, 21, 22) in a container (2) with the medium (3) are arranged and in contact with the medium (3), the steps comprises: applying a voltage to the sensor elements (10, 20) for generating an electric field between the sensor elements, wherein the respective electrodes (11, 12, 21 , 22) of a sensor element have the same potential (step 1), switching off the voltage between the sensor elements (10, 20) (step 2), and performing detection by means of impedance spectroscopy for detecting the properties of the medium (3) in the vicinity of the respective sensor elements (10, 20). The invention also relates to a device for carrying out the method, as well as a washing device with the device for detecting properties of a fluid medium (3).
