Disclosed are a system and a method for GPS-based tire pressure monitoring. The tire pressure monitoring system according to an aspect of the present invention includes a GPS receiver that receives a GPS signal so as to calculate an actual vehicle speed (Vacutal); a vehicle speedometer that outputs a theoretical vehicle speed (Videal) which is detected by a vehicle speed sensor; an ECU that monitors the actual vehicle speed (Vacutal) based on a GPS value and the theoretical vehicle speed (Videal) based on the vehicle speedometer; and a display means for displaying a driver-recognizable message when an abnormality is detected during the monitoring process so that a driver can be aware of the need for a tire check at that point of time.;COPYRIGHT KIPO 2015
