The present invention discloses learning apparatus and method based on an Adaboost algorithm. The learning method based on an Adaboost algorithm according to an aspect of the present invention includes the following steps: dividing a train data group including a plurality of positive images with a detection target and a plurality of negative images having no detection target into N partial groups; extracting M upper characteristic points having a relatively great detection rate of the detection target from an initial characteristic group by performing learning based on an Adaboost algorithm with respect to each partial group; and extracting a plurality of final characteristic points having a relatively great detection rate from the extracted NM characteristic points.
