Disclosed are an apparatus and a method for detecting a black hole attack to insert a packet into a specific node by utilizing a proposed DPBA (Detecting and Preventing BlackHole Attacks)-AODV scheme, which reflects an existing AODV scheme, through taking characteristics of a malignant node having a high sequence number and a shortest route into consideration. The apparatus for detecting a black hole attack includes: a broadcast part to broadcast an RREQ(Route Request) message to at least one node; a receiving part to receive the RREQ(Route Request) message from a destination node, which maintains a route with respect to a node, to which a user designates to transmit the packet among at least one node which receives the RREQ message; and a detection part to detect a malignant node, which attempts a black hole attack, based on the received RREP message.
