The present invention relates to an apparatus and a method for detecting metallic corrosion and, more particularly, to a technique for evaluating metallic pitting corrosion by using an acoustic emission method applied to a potentiodynamic polarization test. In detecting the metallic pitting corrosion by using a potentiodynamic polarization test using the acoustic emission method, AE signal time delay (t1) caused by the metallic pitting corrosion during an oxidation process and AE signal time delay (t2) caused by gas bubble generation during a reduction process are acquired and the difference (t3) between the time delays acquired in the oxidation and reduction processes is used for pitting potential (Ep) and open-circuit potential (Ecop) calculation. Accordingly, the degree of metallic pitting corrosion damage can be evaluated with ease.
