Disclosed are a social media platform system and a content providing method based on augmented reality. The social media platform system comprises: relay equipment collecting and transmitting position information and images in a predetermined reality space; a social media content providing server providing virtual content related to social media including an avatar of a user; a social media platform server which receives the position information and images from the relay equipment, combines virtual content provided by the social media content providing server with the received images by using an augmented reality technique to generate a virtual space, and transmits the generated virtual space, position information, and motion information of the avatar; and a user terminal which transmits a control command for controlling the motion of the avatar to the social media platform server, receives the virtual space, the position information, and the motion of the avatar according to the control command from the social media platform server, and displays them on a display. By using the present invention, the virtual space, where a social media service associated with various content such as game, music, broadcast, and performance is experienced, is provided by acquiring images of the real space. Therefore, users can enjoy various experiences such as listening to music, playing games, or watching performances, etc. in the virtual space associated with the real space by using avatars of their own.;COPYRIGHT KIPO 2015
