The present invention relates to a method for selecting a relay node and a wireless body area communication system adopting the same and, more specifically, to a method for selecting a relay node by immediately considering the remaining energy level, the signal to noise ratio (SNR), and the traffic load of a node when link disconnection or transmission failure occurs due to internal network mobility. The method for selecting a relay node according to the present invention comprises the following steps of: generating a relay information request message and transmitting the message to neighboring nodes when it is determined that a node is disconnected from a coordinator; receiving, from each of the neighboring nodes, a relay information request response message including the SNR value between each neighboring node and the coordinator, and the traffic load and the remaining energy level of each neighboring node; calculating an average SNR value of the SNR values between the coordinator and each neighboring node and between each neighboring node and the corresponding node by measuring the SNR value at the time that the node receives the relay information request message from the neighboring nodes; calculating the utility value of each neighboring node by considering the calculated average SNR value, and the traffic load and the remaining energy level of each neighboring node; selecting a neighboring node having the highest utility value as a relay node according to the calculated resu and transmitting a relay request message to the selected relay node.
